Black Girl Knit Club

Black Girl Knit Club (BGKC) is a knitwear collective based in East London, UK started by two friends; Knitwear Designer Sicgmone Kludje and Textile Lecturer, Director and Stylist Vea Koranteng.

As women of colour the two started BGKC in January 2019 after realising there wasn't a safe space for women who looked like them in the craft industry. They were further motivated after following discussions on social media about the lack of diversity within the crafting and fibre communities. Feeling there was a real need to change the narrative for themselves and the black craft community they created Black Girl Knit Club.

Their aim is to create a safe and inclusive space for black women to gather, unite and inspire each other. By encouraging the building of hand knitting skills they aim to create a learning platform which highlights the importance of creativity and skill building to the wider black community.
