Samira has been teaching knitting, crochet and Tunisian crochet to adults, young adults and children since 2013 locally in the Scottish Borders and throughout Scotland. Samira is the knitting and crochet tutor at the prestigious Gartmore House near Loch Lomond and teaches at major fibre events in Scotland, such as Shetland Wool Week, The Woolly Good Gathering, and Glasgow School of Yarn. Samira also teaches travelling fibre enthusiasts from overseas as a Scotland Knitting Tour tutor, and regularly teaches live online classes and online courses to an international audience at Rowan Connect events. Samira has also been working as a knitting and crochet designer since 2020, with many knitting and crochet designs published in international publications and magazines such as The Journal of Scottish Yarns, Moorit and Knitting Magazine. Plus she has over 30 self-published designs available on Ravelry. Her designs include garments and accessories such as hats, mittens, shawls, cowls, scarves, as well as socks, leg warmers, ponchos, baby clothes and blankets using a multitude of techniques, from beginners to advanced.
Between designing and teaching, Samira also works as a knitting and crochet technical editor, for many independent designers as well as international publications such as The Shetland Wool Week Annual and The Journal of Scottish Yarns. Until 2023 Samira was also working as a pattern writer and pattern checker for Quail Studios.
Samira is also the sole organiser of Tangled Galashiels, a community fibre festival established in the Scottish Borders in 2023, focusing on showcasing a wide range of fibre crafts, celebrating crafters both local and from further afield, promoting fibre information and sustainability with a local provenance fleece market, advocating fibre crafts for well being, encouraging the social aspects of crafting, and educating through showing the journey and historical heritage of fibre crafts.
