Suraya Hossain

Suraya Hossein is a London based designer-maker specialising in knitted and crocheted textile jewellery.

Having gained the fundamental skills for creating fine jewellery she's experimented with all types of jewellery-making but her passion for knitting took over when, on a visit to an art shop she discovered some copper wire that was thin enough to knit. This marked the beginning of her knitted wire obsession and led to the birth of the Mahliqa brand.

Taking inspiration from her eastern heritage and the vintage jewellery styles of India & Persia she incorporates colour through the use of luxury crystals, gemstones, enamelled copper wire and luxury yarns produced by talented indie yarn dyers.

As well as making ready to wear jewellery she produces stitch markers, knitting kits and jewellery knitting patterns and her work has featured in many knitting & crochet magazines. Suraya has herself appeared as 'expert crafter' on Channel 4's 'Kirstie's Handmade Christmas' and she regularly sells and exhibits her work at craft shows around the UK.
