Tammi Williams

United States

Tammi Williams is a textile designer based in Brooklyn, NY, making project bags for crafters under her brand yarn&whiskey. She uses her own original textile designs on her bags as well as her extensive collection of ankara and wax print fabrics.

Allowing nothing to go to waste, she uses fabric scraps left over from making project bags to weave new fabrics. Woven on a table loom using simple weave structures, the resulting fabric is layered with texture and infused with the her love of a good remix.

Tammi came to textile design through her love of fabric and had no idea there was a job called a 'textile designer' until a time most people would have deem too late, but at the age of 48, she enrolled in the Fashion Institute of Technology's Textile & Surface design program, graduating in May 2024.

She has since grown her business beyond project bags and is moving towards building a lifestyle brand, introducing shirts, silk scarves, tote and crossbody bags, to her growing line offerings.  A life-long New Yorker, her work is inspired by the city she loves, the African Diaspora, Hip Hop, modern art, and her travels. Her design heroes are art-forward, entrepreneurial women such as Sonia Delaunay and Vera Neumann.  yarn&whiskey centres quality craft-making and prioritises sustainable practices. Tammi hopes to give her customers lots of color, print, simple functionality, and a way to express themselves. yarn&whiskey products are for people who appreciate good design, who never met a color they couldn't rock, and who stroll through life to their own soulful soundtrack.
